I’m not an addict, its cool, I feel alright

May 29, 2008

So where have I been?

  1. Pounding the pavement looking for work
  2. Spending quality time with my children
  3. Organizing the house
  4. Cooking
  5. Doing laundry
  6. None of the above

The answer is #6, None of the above.
We purchased a Wii. My husband and I have been playing tennis, bowling and golf all in the comfort of our living room. Last night we pulled out Guitar Hero III. I have mastered Slow Ride.

Not often do I feel hype is justified. Juno is a good movie. Did I think it was as ground breaking as the hype made it see? Uh, no. Don’t even get my started on Napoleon Dynamite. ugh..

The Wii hype is dead on. It rocks; particularly, when you beat your husband at bowling.

Quitter

May 12, 2008

So, I did something crazy. I quit my job. I don’t have another one. We don’t have any savings. I am freaking.

It was the right choice and little things everyday make that clear.

I gave 6 weeks notice so as not to leave my current employer high and dry…given that I am the only staff member, that would be easy to do. I already have short timers disease but still have 4 weeks left.

What to do next…

Perfect Evening

April 29, 2008

This evening is absolutely perfect. It was a so-so day that the ever accurate metetologist said would be amazing. Their predictions came true about 5pm. The sun broke through the clouds, it was neither hot nor cold, the sky was a crisp blue. It was perfect.

We had a nice dinner and the girls got to spend about an hour outside. Monkey Girl watered flowers and Little Monkey got very, very wet. “It helps her grow” claimed Monkey Girl.

After bath and bedtime, I went outside to check the mail box. (we live in a new community and the mail boxes are all clustered at the end of the block) The sun started to set as I stepped outside to the calming smell of trees in bloom. I felt like I was in another part of the country, one I like. It was lovely.

I dilly dallied down to the mail box, stopped myself when I started to walk in my normal brisk pace. I couldn’t bear to go back in so I took out the trash and recycling and decided to sweep out the garage. My husband came out to check on me because I was out for so long. “We’re supposed to sweep the garage. Geez, when do the chores stop?” was his input on the evening.

Unfortunately, tomorrow a storm is coming in and we won’t have another evening like this for a week or so. I bet the blossoms will be gone by then - blown away by the wind, battered by the impending snow. (yes, snow)

I lived in DC years ago and my favorite time of the year was when the cherry blossoms were in bloom. I would visit daily but often went in the evening. The crowds were thin and the smell took over my body. There was something magically about walking through those trees with the sun creeping to bed. The moonlight reflects off the petals. Every year, I intend to make a trip to see the blossoms. We have been gone 6 years and I only made it back once. Maybe next year will be the year.

At least I have tonight…

Facebook is Scrabulous

April 22, 2008

Okay, you know something has jumped shark when I sing it’s praises.

I heart facebook. I never got into myspace. Those photos turn me off. I mean, don’t people know I do all my social networking at work, I don’t need half nude photos of my friends on my screen when the boss walks by.

I don’t spend a lot of time finding people and only have a paltry 55 friends. One of my friend has over 600. Dude, I am so not cool.

I could spend all day playing scrabulous. Facebook has a nice little application that allows you to invite your friends to a game. LOVE IT! I am playing games with my husband and cousin.

Tonight, I asked my husband if he has any other games going. He said, “I am not going to broadcast that I am a nerd and invite any of my friends to play.” Thanks, honey. I HEART you too and I am glad I just laid down a 36 point word.

Scrabble that!

Vegas Baby

April 21, 2008

I am meeting some friends in Vegas for a girls weekend. We are all married, all but one has kids and we haven’t seen each other since the last one got married over 2 years ago. I can’t wait.

But I need clothes. Cute clothes. Clothes that hide the extra 15 pounds I am carrying around. Clothes that don’t scream office professional or overweight mom. I haven’t a clue when I will find time to do any shopping. Plus, where do I find these magical clothes? The clothes that will make me cute and thin again.
